The London 2012 Olympic £5 Silver Gold-plated Coin (SIL-PC-L512-GP)
"The latest Official coins to be struck by the Royal Mint celebrating the London 2012 Games will come to be regarded as one of the leading ways in which the two Games will be symbolised and will become focal points for collectors commemorating London 2012. The Official Olympic UK £5 Coin has been struck in silver and features the winning Olympic design by Saiman Miah.
Entirely plated with fine gold, the sterling silver Proof coin with full-colour London 2012 emblem is exquisite. An affordable piece of luxury and presented in a complementary case, this Olympic coin is complete with a Certificate of Authenticity attesting to its strict specifications and Maximum Coin Mintage of just 12,500.
The Olympic coin design by Saiman Miah features the London skyline and the River Thames within a central circle. Iconic buildings depicted include Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, the Gherkin, St Paul’s Cathedral, the London Eye and the Tower of London, with London 2012 arching above. The outer ring of the design features pictograms representing various Olympic sports which are synonymous with the London 2012 Games.
‘As an architecture student I wanted to include a detailed impression of London’s iconic skyline on my design,’ says Saiman. ‘The pictograms of Olympic athletes placed around the edge is like a clock face,’ he explains, ‘and a reference to another London icon, Big Ben. Winning the Olympic Coin competition is a dream come true.’"

Official London 2012 five-ounce silver coin (SIL-PC-L5OZ12)
"We are delighted to have this new design created especially for this coin by the influential international painter, sculptor and printmaker, Christopher Le Brun RA. Elected President of the Royal Academy in 2011, he is known for grand, resplendent works executed with exuberance and panache.
As the UK’s first five-ounce silver coin his piece has particular numismatic significance and with its large diameter of over six centimetres, size also gives this limited edition coin gravitas and aesthetic appeal.
This exquisite coin comes in a superb wood-veneer display case and is encapsulated to preserve the condition of this beautiful, fine silver coin for generations to come.
In Greek mythology, Pegasus is an immortal winged horse, known for his strength, speed and his ability to fly to great heights. Often featured on ancient Greek pottery and coins, this mighty steed of the gods had many exploits helping others before being banished to the sky by Zeus who turned him into the constellation Pegasus."
