  • Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Pretoria.
  • Freelanced after her studies.
  • Employed as an artist for the South African Mint in June 1994.
  • The following awards have been presented to the South African Mint for coins designed by Natanya van Niekerk:
  • 1996: "THE WORLD'S MOST BEAUTIFUL COMMEMORATIVE GOLD COIN" awarded at the MDC (Mint Directors Conference) in Warsaw for the Natura gold coin series in 1996.
  • 1998: "THE WORLD'S MOST BEAUTIFUL COMMEMORATIVE GOLD COIN" awarded at the MDC (Mint Directors Conference) in Canberra for the Natura gold coin series in 1997.
  • 1998: "THE MOST POPULAR COIN" awarded at the Singapore International Coin Show for "The Leopard" of the Natura Big 5 coin series featured in 1998. This coin was also voted 2nd as "The World's Most Beautiful Commemorative Gold Coin" in 1998
  • 1999: "THE COIN OF THE YEAR - COTY 1999". "The Women of South Africa" from the 1997 Protea Coin Series was nominated for its artistic design at the ANA Coin Convention in Chicago.
  • 1999: "BEST COMTEMPORARY EVENT COIN - COTY 1999". This award was given to the 1997, R2 gold commemorative coin called "30th Anniversary - The First Heart Transplant".
  • 2000: "THE FRENELI AWARD FOR EXCEPTIONAL NUMISMATIC ACHIEVEMENT" was awarded to Natanya van Niekerk at the Basel International Coin Show in Switzerland in January 2000.
  • 2000: "THE WORLD'S MOST BEAUTIFUL COMMEMORATIVE GOLD COIN" awarded at the MDC (Mint Directors Conference) in South Africa for the Natura gold coin series in 1999.
  • 2001:  Award for Excellence in Numismatics by the South African Numismatic Association
  • 2008: "THE WORLD'S MOST BEAUTIFUL COMMEMORATIVE GOLD COIN" awarded at the MDC (Mint Directors Conference) in Korea for the Natura gold coin series in 2006
  • Natanya's other interests are wide and varied, ranging from sculpting, singing, producing videos, theatre productions, reading, motorcycling, horse riding and pottery to travelling.
