![]() ![]() World Heritage Sites in South AfricaThe Cape Floral Region World Heritage SiteThe Cape Floral Region World Heritage Site was proclaimed in 2004 and comprises eight protected areas stretching from the Cape Peninsula to the Eastern Cape, an area of 553 000 hectares. This region represents less than 0.5% of the area of Africa, but is home to nearly 20% of the continent's flora. Its plant species diversity, density and endemism are among the highest worldwide and it has been identified as one of the world's 18 biodiversity hot-spots. The site displays outstanding ecological and biological processes associated with the Fynbos vegetation, which is unique to the Cape Floral Region. Of the 9600 species of vascular plants found in the cape floral kingdom, about 70% are endemic. The area's freshwater and marine environments are similarly unique, with plants and animals adapted to highly specialised environments. The kingdom boasts 11 000 marine animal species, 3500 of which are endemic and 560 vertebrate species, including 142 reptile species of which 27 are endemic. The reverse of this R2 (1/4 oz) pure gold coin shows a view of Table Mountain across Table Bay, the magnificent Cape Sugarbird as well as an example of the beautiful Fynbos found in this World Heritage Site. The official South African Coat of Arms, the year "2007" and "South Africa" is depicted on the obverse of the coin.

R2 (1/4 oz) Gold CoinLimited Edition: 2000The 24 carat gold R2 (1/4 oz) coin is packaged in a black leatherette box. Each coin issued has an individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity. his Certificate of Authenticity guarentees the quality and authenticity of the coins made by the South African Mint Company.
Certificate of AuthenticityEach coin and coin set issued by the South African Mint Company has a Certificate of Authenticity. The certificate describes the coin’s specifications, the year, the limited edition as well as a short description of the product. It also depicts the signature of the South African Mint’s Managing Director, Mr Andile Mvinjelwa. To prevent the duplication of a South African Mint product, the certificates are re-designed each year to include the coin design and each certificate is individually numbered according to the limited edition of the coin or set. As another security measure, the South African Mint’s logo, which is printed in transparent ink and only visible under ultra-violet light, features as part of the layout.
