In the Jubilee year of the Krugerrand, we celebrate South Africa’s numismatic history on the 2017 Natura coin series by featuring illustrated springbok designs created by South African sculptor Coert Steynberg (7 January 1905–28 July 1982) in 1946/47. These illustrations were created for the design of the 1947 5-shilling coin. The final cowin relief of the prancing springbok was later used for the reverse design of the now world-famous Krugerrand.
