The iconic Krugerrand celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2017. To celebrate the enduring value of this trusted and legendary gold coin, the range was extended and produced in new metals for the first time since its inception in 1967.
The classic design of the springbok can be found on the new silver and platinum coins. Originally designed by sculptor Coert Steynberg, the springbok on the coins’ reverse is accompanied by a ‘50th anniversary’ privy mark to commemorate the enduring value of this internationally- recognised brand.

As with the original gold coin minted on 3 July 1967, the silver and platinum Krugerrand range bears the undeniable weight of the Krugerrand legacy and carries it forward with superior technological advancements. Each coin is hand positioned and pressed several times at a lower weight, allowing for immaculate transfer of detail and ensuring a truly beautiful gloss every time.
The common obverse design features Paul Kruger, then-president of South Africa, as modelled by die-engraver Otto Schultz and struck from the original die used in 1892 for the historic Kruger half-crown coin.
