to the moon. (Monty) Pratley. Many incredible uses were found for the
unique and versatile putty, but none so inspiring as when
it was used by NASA during the Ranger missions, where
it became the first South African product to have landed
on the moon.
The R2 1oz crown depicts the African continent as seen
from above the moon. The Apollo 11 module as well as
lunar lander, and the dates 1964 and 1965 (years of the
Ranger missions), 1969 (year of the first moon landing)
and 2019 (50th anniversary of the first lunar landing).
A circular recess on the coin is included to facilitate the
integration of the 2½c tickey.
The 2½c tickey shows the African continent, together
with the surface of the moon. The coin also depicts the
Ranger spacecraft (which crashed on the moon) along
with George Montague Pratley’s initials ‘GMP.’
